Green Lock FC made a strong statement and recorded one of their biggest wins in club football history by beating their opponent Gwarimpa United FC, 7-1 on Friday morning at the Bwari township stadium, Abuja.

Edwin Onazi opened the floodgates within minutes when he scored clinically from a Damilola Adeyeye’s assist in the 5th minute. 8min later, Dami would find space and accelerated into it to make a lovely chip past the on rushing goalkeeper for the second goal.

Green Lock FC continued to impress spectators with their usual dash and gloss and forced consecutive throw-ins as time wore on. Onazi had a chance to have made it three in the 29th minute after Umeh made a steaming run down the right flank with a connecting pass which the latter profligated from close range as the opposition goalkeeper made a point blank save that resulted to a corner kick.

Barbas Theophilus made it three eventually in the 31st minute with a bullet of a header to the top right corner of the goal post from the resultant corner kick. Meanwhile, Taofeek Yekini made it four just on the stroke of halftime with a powerful volleyball against the run of play from the edge of the box.

on resumption, Gwarimpa United FC pulled one back, although it was an own goal resulting from communication break down between Green Lock FC defender Onyejiaka Alexander and goalkeeper Adeshino Olarenwaju. It wasn’t long before Barbas Theophilus profited from Gwarimpa FC’s goalkeeper’s error, who spilled a ball unto his path, with Barbas making no mistakes to latch on a simple tap in to make it five against the visitors.

Enock Eneche who came off the shadows of the bench also registered his name twice on the score sheet to end the tie 7-1 in favour of Green Lock FC.

Speaking after the match, elated captain of Green Lock FC, Gogo Gabriel Jack, said he is overwhelmed with the outcome of the game. He believes taking all their chances and listening to coaches instructions was instrumental to the win, saying it was a good game for them as a club.

“It is a good game, we had our chances which we took, we’ve been playing to oir coaches instructions and we have been doing very well in our last six matches, so it is a good one to the team, the coaches and the management”

“This win means we are getting stronger and we are getting better, we are yet to get to our destination, but we will surely get there”

Meanwhile, head coach of Gwarimpa United FC, Umar Musa Bamaiyi, blamed the heavy defeat to lack of fitness on the side of his boys. He admits his boys have work to do, and assured the team will not suffer this kind of annihilation in the hands of any opposition in their subsequent games.

“I must say kudos to our opponent, they are really trying, our fitness level affected us and I heard they have been training here for a while. We will work on our boys very well so that next time we will not experience this kind of defeat again” he stated.
